Ring in the New Year

Happy New Year!!

Tonight is the night we pop open the giant bottle of Mumm Champagne we got while at their vineyard in Napa!

Sunday, December 16, 2007

I have to apologize for the severe lack of posts lately. A week ago today I had a skiing accident that involved myself, a chipmunk, and two busted hands. (see below)

The end result was a broken right thumb with a gigantic cast, a splinted sprained left thumb, a sprained left hip, and a few bruises here and there. All and all, that chipmunk did a through job at taking me out.

The worst part about it is that I can't ski for 6 weeks. :( If the conditions were the same as last year I would have said no problem, not worth it anyway... but this year the conditions are amazing and it's not even Christmas yet!!

So it looks like I'll be spending my weekends kicking off Apres Ski around 12pm for the next 6 weeks while Matt is on the hill teaching 6 year olds how to ski. :)

Kind of a scary view from underneath the Golden Gate Bridge

Double Vision

It's every girl's worst nightmare... showing up on the big night with the same dress as the pretty blond girl! So what do you think? Who looks better here in the Dolce and Gabbana dress: British pop star Jamelia or Victoria Secret model Victoria Silvstedt?

An Update from Swarovski Fashion Rocks

Click to see some pictures of the event

The night gave the girls over at Go Fug Yourself 2 frocks for fodder. See for yourself, the evening's host Uma Thurman (who I think looks great from the front- ahemm-just read their rendition of Twinkle twinkle little star), and Heather Graham.

Here's a good re-cap of the night from The Prince's Trust (the charity that the evening's proceeds were given to).

I can't wait until it's on here in the US!

Fashion Rocks is this Thursday at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson will be hosting the event where designers create looks for today's top music stars.

award-winning Sugababes welcome on stage a second surprise guest, for a

Old and New

I just saw the new Britney video for Gimme More... in a word, ewww. To make matters worse, the next video on was Crazy. Granted I'm not a huge Britney fan to begin with, but come on!!! Crazy is the best! It's all pre-Federline Britney AND has Melissa Joan Hart and the always cute Adrian Grenier... it must have been from that movie they did back in the day. Hahah was it called Drive Me Crazy? I can't even remember. Oh yeah, it definitely was. Come to think of it, I don't think I've even seen any music videos since Drive Me Crazy was in theaters... so why now? Matt is passed out on the couch (Sunday OD on football, beer, and football food) and there's nothing on TV so I ventured up to BBC America, nothing- and then thought I'd try MTV Hits. Alas! The elusive music video. Ohhh ok I get it, Latest and Greatest. Hence the new Britney and old Britney. Right now it's Fall Out Boy in Africa, hmm kinda weird...eeek! And depressing. It ends with a village on fire, barbed wire and knives. I wish I could fast forward this right now. There isn't even any music playing! Bored FOB. Bored. Ok ok I appreciate that they're trying to bring awareness to the children in Uganda. I get it. Ok I think I'm over music videos anyway... I kinda miss the crazy videos of the 90's.

Yoga Toes

My latest random purchase has finally arrived, Yoga Toes! They promise "Ultimate Freedom From Shoes" which is exactly what my feet need at the end of the day! I'm only in my mid-20's but I've already managed to ruin my feet with high heels. Yoga Toes stretch, strengthen, and reconstruct your feet after they've been subjected to women's shoes. I know it sounds a little crazy, I was definitely skeptical at first, but I thought I'd try them. I'll let you know how it goes!

Siriusly... whatever

I've had Sirius radio now for quite a while and I almost wrote a post about how much I love it earlier... but alas, procrastination go the best of me once again. So here we are on the topic of Sirius and how entertaining I've found it to be. First I'll say that my favorite music station is The Beat and I'm proud to say that I now know all of the club hits that I hear at the gym without having to go clubbing! It's so much fun! Another channel I've discovered is none other than the Martha Stewart Living channel. One day while waiting for Matt to come down from his 25th floor office (which sometimes takes forever...) I was flipping through all of the stations and stumble across Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer. I was curious and started listening... Alexis, by the way is Martha's daughter. Well, now a few months later I love listening to their show! Hilarious New York girls just chit chatting about the most random topics ever. They remind me of my two best friends who are both scattered across the globe. One in Germany and the other in Tonga (yeah I didn't know where that was either but now I know that it's located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean... relatively close to Fiji and up the underwater trench from New Zealand). Anywho, if you're a Sirius subscriber definitely tune in to check it out. They're on Channel 112 from 5-7 weekdays. Or you could go to their website

The whole kit & kaboddle

If you're anything like me, by the time the holidays roll around there's way too much pressure to answer the question "What do you want for Christmas/Hanukkha/Etc. Now, I used to be a believer of a gift is a gift and whatever someone wants to get me is wonderful. However, lately I've come to the conclusion that I have too much stuff. And so, in an attempt to de-clutter my life, I've signed up for Kaboodle, a wish list site that you can send to family and friends so you can actually get what you want or need. Because, at this point, yeah that journal is nice but what I really need is a set of towels. It's kind of like a registry for life.

:-) turns 25

Talk about growing up in the digital age. I just ran across an article on CNN that the :-) (literally, the smiley face) turns 25 today. That makes me just slightly older than the emoticom. 6 months and 3 days to be exact ; )

  • 25 years ago professor Scott E. Fahlman first used the computer "smiley face"
  • :-) posted to an online e-bulletin board at 11:44 a.m. on September 19, 1982

Ohh and my favorite is when you use emoticoms on Google chat and it rotates the face! Love it! The hearts are super cute! <3 (if only Blogger would take the cue)

What I want now!

I must confess that I'm a little bit of a tech geek. Albeit, much, much less so than my boyfriend, the Gadget god. While I don't need to run around town with the latest iPhone (I can just steal his when I need to check Facebook), I must have the latest products that merge two of my favorite things: technology and sparkle.

Swarovski partners with Phillips to bring you a line of crystallized accessories in the form of USB devices and headphones. Check out more details here at Active-Crystals. I can't pick just one! These are going to be so hot for the holidays! I've already seen them featured in People magazine. So hottt!

VMA's aka Video Music Anarchy

Ohh boyyy did you see the 2007 VMA's? I've heard that this is the first and last year that MTV will be in Vegas... it's probably for the best. After jumping in on the show halfway through I couldn't help but be totally confused by the chaos that ensued. "Kayne... why are you roaming through the halls of the Palms?" "Is that...Fall Out Boy and 300 fans packed in a hotel room with Gym Class Heros??" "What is going onnnn? I thought this was an award show!"

Anyway, bottom-line, the VMA's were a sight to be seen this year. Things opened up with a much anticipated performance by every one's favorite mess, Britney Spears. Enter Britney: wearing a sparkly bra and underwear set (there's a good picture of it at BBC News) and little more (ok and a giant sparkling cuff, which may or may not be this piece that I tried on at work a few weeks ago thinking hmm now where can I wear this? No where outside of LA, NYC, or Vegas unfortunately-pass). Britney and her ensemble sashayed around the stage to her new song "Gimme some more" while Brit Brit made a half-hearted attempt to lip sync the words. Granted, Britney is a single working mom with 2 kids, but you'd think she would have taken more time to actually learn the words of her new song, as she was visibly off a good deal of the time. Ouchhh... overall, it was an ambitious move for her "comeback", and proved to be a lackluster appearance. Poor thing, I'm rooting for her, I really am, but she makes it so hard!

In other news, a night out in Vegas isn't complete without a fist fight between two rockers and Kidd Rock stepped up to the plate and slugged Tommy Lee during the Alicia Keys performance.
Ohh Pam, which one do you choose? How about neither, you're better off with a box of chocolates and Footballers Wives than those degenerates!

Oompa Loompas & Perez

My friend/co-worker in NY called to tell me she was on Perez Hilton today! How fun :)

Check it out here:

I can't wait for this!

How could you not love Tim Gunn? I love Project Runway with a passion, but Tim really makes the show. I can't wait for his new Tim Gunn's Guide To Style. I wish I could tuck him away in my closet and he'd pop out every morning with some advice and a witty little comment.

My former roommates and I once committed ourselves to learning the entire Thriller dance. Needless to say, we never quite got all of it. I mean, sure if we were incarcerated like these guys and really didn't have anything better to do I'm sure we could have mastered the Thriller Dance before Halloween just like we planned.

Guilty Pleasures: BBC America

Ever since my first jaunt across the pond as a senior in high school, I've loved the BBC. British television has some allure that I just can't shake. Eventually, I discovered BBC America, back in the days when Eastenders and Ground Force were the only shows on and the only commercials were those "As Seen on TV" spots. I was thrilled when The Graham Norton Show came to BBC America and I'm still DVR'ing it today. There was also a short time when Graham Norton came to America and my best friend Jen and I almost made it out to NYC to sit in the audience. I'm still kicking myself for not going!

Today I have a whole set of BBClicious shows to watch. My favorite Footballer's Wives, which is on Wicked Wednesdays, the soap Hollyoaks, and the Graham Norton Show, of course.

While I was recovering from the wisdom teeth, I had some time to peruse the Internet just like the good old days. I can't quite remember how I found it, although it may have been from any of the magazines I was reading last week: Lucky, Glamour, or Allure, but I came across a website called Don't worry, it's nothing like MySpace... no creepy stalkers or strippers.

The idea behind is that you enter all of your measurements and it assigns you a shape associated with a letter. M Y S H A P E, I know tricky... I happen to be an S, so now their online store recommends clothes to fit your shape. The concept reminds me of a book that I love called The Science of Sexy. The book is along the same lines but you select your shape based on visual representations, then it offers you celebrities with the same shape, and fashion do's and don'ts. I highly recommend checking them both out! The take the work out of dressing well to look good! It's just too bad that they don't iron for you as well.

Diary of a Wisdom Tooth Extraction

First of all, make that 4 wisdom teeth. There's a big difference there...

Day One- pain is fine as soon as vicodin kicks in, spend the day watching Laguna Beach Season 1 re-runs. Go to bed feeling like a million bucks.

Day Two- Oww.. this isn't fun. Pop some more vicodin. Starting to resemble a chipmunk now. Sleep, mashed potatoes, and jello followed by a National Geographic on Malaria, and all of the Women's Wear Dailies that I haven't read over the past 2 weeks. Matt's poker boys come over, I retire to my bed. Wake up and stay up until Matt comes to bed at 2.

Day Three- Wake up feeling icky and eat some jello. Wake up at 6 because all pain meds have worn off and try to eat jello so I can take some more. Peach jello reemerges minutes later and I have to resort to advil instead. Try to get up at 10 and eat yogurt so I can re-vic. It finally kicks in and I can sleep. Rest of the afternoon consists of Devil Wears Prada, Britcoms (Footballers Wives and Hollyoakes), Live Earth, and more WWD. More mashed potatoes, less jello.

Hip-Hopopotamus vs. The Rhymenocerous

This is so funny! If you've ever seen Flight of the Conchords you'll know what I'm talking about. Well, the truth is, like The Office, you either love the weird humor or you don't.

IcCa484 (8:50:34 PM): ok that was slightly ridiculous
jem415 (8:51:00 PM): hahah well you're taking it out of context!
IcCa484 (8:51:14 PM): ohhh
IcCa484 (8:51:15 PM): right
IcCa484 (8:51:33 PM): because within some sort of a context it wouldn't be slightly ridiculous??
jem415 (8:52:10 PM): oh I'll give you slightly
jem415 (8:52:33 PM): actually, now that I think about it.. it's more ridiculous when you put it in context
jem415 (8:52:52 PM): you see... they're getting mugged in NYC and he has just handed over his homemade camera phone
IcCa484 (8:54:00 PM): ohh
IcCa484 (8:54:01 PM): haha
jem415 (8:54:12 PM): you really want to see it now don't you
IcCa484 (8:54:25 PM): oh yeah
IcCa484 (8:54:29 PM): you know it

Happy Summer Soltice!

For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere anyway! We've waited a long time for summer to officially start!

This image is from approximately 2:15 pm EST.

It looks like parts of Russia won't be sleeping tonight! My boyfriend's parents arrived in Alaska today and they won't be getting too much darkness either!

Some more "27 Dresses" news

Here are some shots of Katherine Heigl on the set of "27 Dresses" now filming in and around Providence. The crews were down in Southern Rhode Island earlier this week filming in Charlestown for "beach wedding" scenes. Can you refuse to be in a wedding if the dress is this hideous?

Celebrity Spotting

Ok so it's not too often that we spot celebrities in Providence. With all the movies they film around here you know they're out there somewhere, but they're often elusive creatures... Today Matt and I actually spotted Katherine Heigl at Whole Foods checking out with some flowers and other eco-goodies. Matt was the first one to see her (he must be on the lookout after seeing her downtown recently) but I will definitely confirm that it was her. She's so much shorter in person! But still very cute, I must say.

This is an addition to yesterday's post....
I came across an article from Access Hollywood where Katherine talks about her plans on hanging out in Newport, with castmast T.R. Knight (aka George from Grey's).

One person who couldn’t come to the premiere was Katherine’s good friend (and “Grey’s Anatomy” castmate), T.R. Knight. “(He) totally ditched me for the Obie Awards,” she said in mock disdain. “What a bad friend. The Obie Awards, why? Why would you ditch me for that? Never forgive you.”

Her tune changed, however, when she was reminded that she’d be seeing him in a week. “Yes he’s gonna come and visit me. Okay, now I like (him) again, we’re friends again,” she said, laughing. “I’m doing a film in Providence, and he’s only coming so we can drive to Newport and hang out in Newport. He doesn’t want to see me; he wants to go to the mansions in Newport.”

Well, one thing is for sure. That shaggy guy we saw her with at Whole Foods definitely wasn't George...

Stay tuned.

I bid you adieu..

Jacques Chirac bids adieu to his dear France today, more than a decade after he became president in 1995. It’s an interesting time for Europe now with Tony Blair’s resignation last week and the recent French presidential elections confirming Sarkozy as the next Président de la République française. I can’t even remember Europe without those two!

I wonder what Chirac will do in his retirement… after all; he was the mayor of Paris for 18 years before becoming president! Maybe he’ll go down to St. Tropez and spend the rest of his days lounging on the Med during the day and drinking his pastis and playing boules with the other old men of Provence? Or perhaps he’ll paint garden gnomes à la Monsieur Poulain (think Amélie). Either way, it will be a serious change of pace! 30 years in office! Mon Dieu!!

XO Steakhouse in Providence will be featured in upcoming '27 Dresses'

Some more movie news.... the upcoming '27 Dresses', starring Grey's Anatomy's own Katherine Heigl, will feature XO Steakhouse on North Main St as a "hip Big Apple lounge". I saw the movie crews hauling gear there last week so it looks like the footage has already been shot.

Lazy? or just reaaaally productive?

I saw this article on this morning, Laziness is just another kind of productivity. If just reinforces a belief that I've held for quite some time. Just because I want to find that fastest, easiest way of doing things I'm being incredibly lazy and incredibly efficient!

La Lohan

Right now I'd love to go to bed, but I'm intrigued to see how Lindsey Lohan presents herself on Letterman tonight... she should be up after this commercial break.

In other news... did anyone see Lost tonight??? Ahhhh I feel like it's a soap opera when you say but he can't die! We'll see won't we?

Ok here she is... orange as usual, or "radiant" as David says. Hahah aww some fatherly advice..."Don't let the bastards get you down." Love it.

Wow I really admire Letterman's ability to make people who are professional actors/actresses feel really uncomfortable.

So since I've been sitting in front of a computer for 40 hours (give or take, minus training time) a week for 2 years now, I've become addicted to "life hacks". Basically, tips, tricks, articles, etc on being more productive and getting things done. Now you'd think that I'm actually wasting time checking all day but I've learned quite a few interesting things. This article right here, 28 Signs You're Becoming a Productivity Junkie sums it up well. Ok well if you read it I'm not THAT extreme! But I do love the tips and tricks!

In East Side News Today...

In the spirit of the new name, I'll be sure to keep you updated on the latest happenings here in Providence.

Today, Matt saw Katherine Heigl of Grey's Anatomy on hanging out in front of her trailer on the set of her new movie, 27 Dresses. Apparently she was smoking a cigarette and chatting up a co-star? groupie? production assistant?

Although the movie is supposed to take place in NYC, they chose to take advantage of the generous tax credits that Rhode Island offers. It's actually quite a draw to movie makers and now that the sun has come out, lines of movie trailers are often seen around town. In the fall, the movie carnies set up shop right across the street from my apartment for what I believe was Fred Durst's movie The Education of Charlie Banks.

Ikea Hacks

As a young person with my own place to call home, I have my fair share of Ikea furniture. I came across this site today on the Clutter Diet blog (I'm into organizing-in theory at least- lately). It's called Ikea Hacker and it takes your everyday Ikea purchases and turns them into something not so "Ikea" if you know what I mean. Check it out, the towel/wine rack is really cool and these lamps are pretty sexy!

Nom du jour

As you can see, I've changed the name of the blog. I discovered that my International Business Background is crap and useless and therefore SYWBAIBM (yeah see, ridiculously long even as an acronym)will now be East Siiiide. Why East Side? Well, that's where I live in Providence and it's a pretty cool place to be! Hopefully you'll see!

PS the chair hasn't arrived yet... :(

My new chair

I can't wait for the massive box to be sitting outside my door! Matt and I ordered this hunk of "Urban Lounge" last night. It's been way too long since I've had a gigantic bean bag chair. I'll give you the full review when it comes in.

This is fun! Take it and let me know what you are in the comments!

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Love the new Google themes for your Google homepage. I think my favorite part is that they follow the day and change accordingly! Here's a view of my cityscapes theme (evening version, the day version is a cute light green)

It's a Disaster!

Ok now this may seem a tad morbid... but I found this really interesting site through lifehack the other day. It's a map of disasters around the world so if you're planning to travel you can avoid areas with epidemics and the like. It includes things like plane crashes, big storms, earthquakes, biological and technological disasters, etc.

The Weekend Update

Mmmm mmm what a weekend! Here's a quick overview: Saturday=Sunday River, Shockwave, White Heat, Jordan Bowl, and Bloody Marys. Saturday Night= Matt cooks dinner, Coldstone Ice Cream Cake (sooo freakin' good), Red Parka and obnoxious adults in line. Sunday=brunch at the Red Fox, and Telemarking! That was definitely a highlight of the birthday weekend. Matt and I had so much fun falling all over the place and busting our knees. My legs are so tired tonight though. I'm soo going to be sore tomorrow.

Hassle me..

You know, sometimes I just need to be nagged. HassleMe is a service that will e-mail you a nagging message at irregular intervals to help you make positive changes in your habits. Don't worry, I've already set up a nag to "post blog entry", so hopefully we'll be seeing more "positive changes in my habits" there.

Some favorites

I had to counter balance Jen's Things I Dislike with some positivity. J- it's the culture shock...I've been there! Here are some shoes to cheer you up. Ballet flats no less!

I stumbled upon a new shoe site, Piperlime "a fresh shoe shop from Gap Inc., featuring all your favorite brands"

I think it's an interesting idea that Gap is now selling the shoes of different brands... they're not Gap shoes. I guess they're just trying to take advantage of their customer base (especially now that Gap sales aren't so hot) by using customer email lists to promote the site. Hmm I wonder if we'll see more of this soon.

Slacking Off Again

Wow! Talk about being a slacker! It must have been all those New Year's Resolutions keeping me busy! I'll update this soon. In the meantime, check out Jen's site, she always cracks me up.

: )
