We
spent a wonderful day with friends at the New England Aquarium in Boston
today. Although it was a "fish out of water" type of day that new
parents can relate to, I'm so glad we got to spend some time with our
friends who are packing up as we speak for a move to Philadelphia.
The
day started out with the best of intentions, as they always do... Until
a glance at the clock reminded us that we needed to be out the door in
10 minutes (as it always happens). Suddenly you remember the 15 little
necessities that a 7-month old requires for a day away from home -
change of clothes, bottles, Mum Mums, pureed mango, diapers, binkies,
toys to keep her entertained, tiny baby shoes, a headband that matches
the outfit, etc. etc. You can see where organization comes in handy.
(Put that on the list.)
Our
first stop in Boston was at Papagayo for lunch to meet my sister. We
actually made it here smoothly and almost on time. The draw to this
place was tableside guacamole, but sadly no tequila sno-cones for lunch
today! All was going well until it was time to give Grace her first
bottle. She started to get a little fussy so Matt walked around with her
for a bit. As I was assembling the bottle I realized we had a problem.
No nipple! Oh no, this can't be - [search high and low, in every pocket,
every bag, in the car] we don't have a single nipple! Ayyyy.... so we
finished lunch, said our goodbyes and followed directions to a CVS.
After frantically searching the smallest CVS in Massachusetts I came up
empty handed. I mean, this place didn't even carry diapers! Imagine!
I trudged back to the car empty handed. Anyone who has 1.
driven among Boston's one-way cow paths 2. had to navigate them with the
help of a stressed out spouse and 3. have had to listen to a wailing
hungry baby can attest, the stakes were high. We finally found a Mega
CVS in Downtown Crossing, got our nipple and were on our way to the
Aquarium. So as you can see, it has already been - A. Day.
And
we haven't even made it to the Aquarium yet, where we would soon
discover that the penguins were On. Vacation. That's right! NO
PENGUINS!
